I hate that I have these short stubby eyelashes that look non-existent when I’m not wearing mascara. And I hate it when I wear mascara that’s too clumpy or too light, or the kind that smudges so easily. So after testing many different types of mascara, I have created a list of my top 3 absolute FAVORITE mascaras that are on the market today, as well as the pros and cons of each one, based on my actual user experiences. I hope you enjoy this list and trust me, it’s an accurate and honest description!
1) Macy’s Estee Lauder Sumptious Extreme Mascara
I LOVE this mascara. I got a sample of it free when I bought foundation at Macy’s one day and that little tube wouldn’t last as long as I wanted it to, darn!! It made my eyelashes look extra thick and luscious, and it did not smudge when I rubbed my eyes.
Cost: $26-28 per tube depending on where you order it from
Pros: It made my eyelashes visibly longer, thicker, and definitely gave them more volume. And Macy’s often has a promotion where you can get free beauty samples and a cute tote if you purchase between $35 and $70 worth of makeup, so I like to wait until that promotion is active, and purchase my mascara from them during that time. If you don’t want to wait until Macy’s big sale though, you can order them online for $28 on Amazon.com.
Cons: You MUST buy the waterproof version, because the minute you start tearing up (say, a nasty breakup with a spouse…?), your eyes will BURN LIKE HOLY HECK if you’re not using the waterproof kind. I have no idea what it is in the mascara that does this, but someone seriously needs to change their formula!! After using the waterproof mascara (the silver tube) of this type, there’s no negative effect whatsoever. Works just as great as the regular product, only it stays on when you’re swimming, sleeping, or crying. Word of advice: If you’re using this mascara and it’s not waterproof, DO NOT tear up while driving. Just trust me on this one.
2) Younique 3D Fiberlash Mascara
I’ve heard a LOT about this mascara all over the internet, on social media, and from friends who are independent sellers and distributers of the Younique Mascara brand. I have seen many before and after pictures of friends and family members, and I even gave my mom a makeover and she had a set of it. This mascara has two different steps to applying it, first you have to apply a thin layer of the gel mascara, and then you apply the fiber lash mascara separately on top of it, which adds all the length, and cover that with another layer of gel. You can repeat the steps as much as you like, and your eyelashes REALLY DO become much longer. And I guarantee you’ll get compliments or inquiries from many people asking whether they’re real or not! This mascara is THE BEST visibly lengthening and thickening mascara on the market right now, and I have not found any that are better than this.
Cost: $33-35, must purchase through an independent sales distributor*
Pros: The pros of this mascara are that it lasts a long time, is easy to use, comes with instructions and there are tutorials all over the internet on how to use it. Your eyelashes look FABULOUS afterwards, and you may even get out of a speeding ticket when you bash these lashes at a police officer (unless it’s a female officer, then you’re outta luck haha)! It’s easy to apply and easy to remove at the end of the day.
Cons: It’s a bit time consuming to apply this mascara, with the multiple steps, and the fibers may fall into your eyes if you’re not careful. It may be annoying if you get the fiber in your eyes, but it can easily be removed by wetting a paper towel or a clean finger and VERY gently dabbing the area.
*I have a friend who is an independent distributor and sells this product, her name is Jennifer Lopez (easy to remember, just like the celebrity!), and you can purchase this mascara directly from her site here. She is very dependable and will ensure you are well taken care of and your order comes in a timely manner.
3) Essence Lash Princess Mascara
Sounds cheap due to its name, right? Wrong! This mascara I got in my Ipsy bag a few months ago, and I LOVE IT!!! It comes with a curved brush which helps to tackle even the smallest corner eyelashes. It made my eyelashes thick and lengthy without over-clumping, and comes in a super cute little tube.
Cost: $8-10 or FREE if you have an Ipsy monthly subscription
Pros: Extra volume, nice curling action, thick, and lovely eyelashes. I haven’t tried the waterproof version of it but this one seems to hold up beautifully and does not smudge or smear.
Cons: Doesn’t do much for length. This mascara was not waterproof, and it burned my eyes a little whenever I went to wash it off at night (but most mascaras do that, right?). Also, I could not find this mascara for sale at any local department store. If you want to order it, you would most likely need to order it directly from Ipsy, or Amazon.com. It’s not very expensive compared to the other mascaras I listed, but it is definitely worth the cost.
